Angioplasty Cost in the Philippines 2026: Stent Packages and PhilHealth Coverage

An angioplasty package advertised for one stent starts at ₱275,000 at Marikina Valley Medical Center, including doctors’ fees and three days of accommodation. Lower advertised prices may exclude major expenses: St. Elizabeth Hospital’s ₱107,000 starting package excludes stents and professional fees. Compare the inclusions before estimating your total bill.
For a qualifying acute heart attack, PhilHealth provides a ₱523,853 PCI benefit. This should not be treated as an automatic deduction for every angioplasty, particularly planned treatment for stable coronary artery disease.
Angioplasty package prices by hospital

| De Los Santos Medical Center, Quezon City | ₱217,000: non-complex case | Before its stated PhilHealth deduction. Includes cardiologists’ fees and four days of specified accommodation. Stents excluded. |
| De Los Santos Medical Center, Quezon City | ₱250,000: complex case | Before its stated PhilHealth deduction. Stents excluded. |
| Marikina Valley Medical Center, Marikina | From ₱275,000 | Advertised for a one-stent procedure, with doctors’ fees and three days of accommodation. |
| VRP Medical Center, Mandaluyong | From ₱282,000 | Angioplasty package. Request written details on stents, professional fees and PhilHealth. |
| VRP Medical Center, Mandaluyong | From ₱341,200 | Combined coronary angiogram–angioplasty package; terms apply. |

Ask whether your quotation is before or after PhilHealth. A price described as “net of PhilHealth” already reflects the stated deduction.
Heart attack vs. stable heart disease
Coronary angioplasty, also called percutaneous coronary intervention or PCI, opens a narrowed or blocked artery supplying the heart. A cardiologist passes a catheter through a blood vessel and uses a balloon to widen the affected area. A mesh tube called a stent is commonly placed to help keep the artery open.
Your diagnosis matters when checking coverage:
| Your situation | What to ask the hospital |
|---|---|
| Angioplasty for a qualifying acute heart attack | Does my admission qualify for the IHD-AMI PCI package? |
| Planned angioplasty for stable coronary artery disease without an acute heart attack | Which PhilHealth benefit and procedure code apply? |
| Angioplasty scheduled after a recent heart attack | Does my diagnosis and treatment meet the heart-attack package requirements? |
PhilHealth’s clarification includes both STEMI and NSTEMI, two types of acute heart attack, when the clinical criteria are met. A scheduled appointment alone does not determine eligibility.
Does the package include the stent?
Not always. Some packages cover hospital services and professional fees while charging separately for implanted devices.
Request a written quotation showing:
- The number and type of stents included.
- The charge if an additional stent is needed.
- Whether balloons, guidewires and additional imaging are covered.
- Which doctors’ professional fees are included.
- Whether changes to the treatment plan affect the package.
How much does angioplasty with two, three or four stents cost?
The verified hospital pages reviewed do not establish a reliable national price for each stent count. Ask the hospital for an estimate based on your cardiologist’s proposed treatment.
Do not multiply a one-stent package by the number of stents. The package also contains hospital, procedure and professional charges.
Likewise, the difference between two package prices is not necessarily the standalone price of an additional stent. Other inclusions may differ.
Coronary angiogram cost
An angiogram uses contrast dye and X-ray imaging to show the coronary arteries. Angioplasty treats a suitable blockage. The angiogram helps the cardiologist assess whether to proceed with treatment, sometimes during the same session.
| Hospital | Published angiogram price | Listed inclusions |
|---|---|---|
| Marikina Valley Medical Center | From ₱55,000 | Catheterization laboratory procedure, one day of accommodation and doctors’ fees. |
| VRP Medical Center | From ₱58,000 | Coronary angiogram package; terms apply. |
| Cardinal Santos Medical Center, San Juan | ₱65,000 | Basic package includes specified hospital charges and angiographer’s and attending physician’s fees. |
These are diagnostic package prices. Confirm whether the angiogram is already included in your angioplasty quotation before adding a separate amount to your budget.
PhilHealth coverage for angioplasty
PhilHealth’s enhanced Ischemic Heart Disease–Acute Myocardial Infarction package took effect on December 21, 2024.
| Benefit | Published amount |
|---|---|
| PCI for qualifying heart-attack treatment | ₱523,853 |
| Fibrinolysis, a clot-dissolving treatment | ₱133,500 |
| Emergency medical services with coordinated referral and interfacility transfer | ₱21,900 |
| Cardiac rehabilitation after PCI | ₱66,140 |
These are separate benefits with their own requirements. Do not add them together as an automatic entitlement for every admission.
Can angioplasty be free?
PhilHealth’s heart-attack benefit announcement states that there should be no co-payment for inpatient basic or ward accommodation in public and private health facilities.
For a qualifying admission, ask the hospital’s PhilHealth desk to explain the covered care and accommodation. Do not assume the same arrangement applies to every private-room admission or elective procedure for stable disease.
Is a 24-hour hospital stay required?
PhilHealth’s October 2025 advisory says a 24-hour admission is not required for reimbursement of IHD-AMI claims. It also directs facilities without the necessary treatment capability to coordinate referrals to capable hospitals.
Why do hospital websites show different deductions?
An advertised hospital package may use a different applicable benefit from the acute heart-attack package.
De Los Santos, for example, publishes after-PhilHealth cash-out figures of ₱157,915 for non-complex angioplasty and ₱190,915 for complex angioplasty, with stents excluded. Confirm whether those examples apply to your diagnosis and current coverage.
Ask for an estimate showing the hospital charges, excluded items, applicable PhilHealth deduction and remaining patient share. Do not subtract ₱523,853 from an online package yourself.
What can increase your bill?
| Possible extra | What to clarify before a planned procedure |
|---|---|
| Stents and other devices | How many are included, and how additional devices are billed. |
| Professional fees | Whether every doctor involved is covered. |
| Diagnostic tests | Whether the angiogram, blood tests and other requested examinations are included. |
| Additional hospital or ICU days | The charges after the package’s allowance ends. |
| More complex treatment | Whether additional equipment or procedures change the quotation. |
| Complications | Whether the hospital switches to itemized billing. |
| Take-home medicines | Whether your discharge prescription is included. |
| Follow-up and rehabilitation | Whether these are included, separately covered or self-paid. |
Cardinal Santos states that its cardiac packages apply to non-complicated cases. If a case becomes complicated during the procedure, itemized billing replaces the package rate.
HMO, discounts and financial assistance
Using your HMO
Before a planned admission, request authorization and a written coverage assessment. Ask about hospital and cardiologist accreditation, your remaining benefit limit, room entitlement and any condition-specific exclusions.
Check stent coverage specifically. Ask whether implanted devices have a separate limit and how the HMO will coordinate payment with PhilHealth.
A letter of authorization does not necessarily mean the entire bill is covered. Ask for the expected patient share. See our HMO guide for questions to ask when comparing plans.
Senior citizen and PWD discounts
Ask billing to compare the package with the applicable discounted billing option. Cardinal Santos states that senior citizen, PWD and other discounts do not apply to its advertised cardiac packages. Avoid assuming that a promotional package and a statutory discount can be combined.
If you cannot afford the balance
Ask the hospital’s Medical Social Service office to assess available assistance and provide its current document checklist. Where a Malasakit Center is available, ask about help with eligible remaining expenses.
For a qualifying heart-attack admission, also ask the PhilHealth desk about basic or ward accommodation and no-co-payment rules.
Medicines and recovery costs
Budget for prescribed medicines, follow-up visits, rehabilitation and time away from work. After stent placement, antiplatelet medicines help prevent dangerous blood clots. Do not stop them without your cardiologist’s advice. Stopping treatment early can increase the risk of a heart attack. If affordability is a problem, tell your care team before your supply runs out.
Recovery after planned angioplasty may be quicker than recovery following a heart attack. Ask your cardiologist when you can return to work and normal activities.
Frequently asked questions
Is planned angioplasty covered by PhilHealth’s ₱523,853 package?
Planned treatment for stable coronary artery disease should not be assumed eligible for the heart-attack package. If treatment is scheduled after a recent heart attack, ask the hospital to assess eligibility from your diagnosis and treatment details.
Does everyone with a blocked artery need a stent?
No. Treatment may involve medicines, angioplasty or bypass surgery, depending on the disease and your overall health. Your heart team should guide that decision.
Is angioplasty the same as bypass surgery?
No. Angioplasty opens an artery using a catheter, balloon and often a stent. Coronary bypass surgery creates another route for blood to reach the heart muscle. The procedures have different treatment and billing requirements.
How much is cardiac rehabilitation after angioplasty?
PhilHealth lists a ₱66,140 cardiac rehabilitation benefit after PCI, subject to its requirements. This is a benefit amount, not a universal private-clinic price. Ask your provider about eligibility, sessions and any patient charges.
